Long, long ago, in a kingdom ruled by a "semi-barbaric" king whose cruelty was well known by his subjects. He built an arena for punishing criminals. In this arena there were two closed doors. Behind one door is a hungry flesh-eating tiger. Behind the other door is a gorgeous maiden, who will be married to the accused on the spot. The criminal must choose his own fate by selecting one of these doors.
The people of the kingdom liked this system of justice, because the uncertainty of the situation is very entertaining.
When the Princess fell in love with a young courtier; who was from the lower class, the king decided to put him in the arena.
The princess uses her power to find out what door the tiger would be behind and what door the lady would be behind. The story ends on the day of punishment, the courtier came out and looked at the princess for help. She pointed to the right door.
Did she sacrifice her love to be married to another, or let him die.
